Bonn, September 17th, 2001.
This morning, the "National Group" met at the Federal Ministry of
Economy to prepare Germany's position for the World Radio Conference in 2003
("WRC-03"). This body has an advisory status to the Federal Minister
of Economics.
Amongst other topics, on the agenda was to decide how Germany shall behave
concerning to keep or to abolish the Morse telegraphy exam in amateur radio. AGZ
e.V. was taking part in the meeting and was entitled to vote.
The major outcome is: The National Group has decided with only a single counter vote not to support a manual or practical exam in Morse Telegraphy any more. It will advise the Minister to act and vote accordingly at WRC-03.
The National Group in overwhelming majority was in agreement with the
position of AGZ e.V. which was adopted to be the German position for WRC-03,
what the Morse issue is concerned.
We regard our attitude being pursued since 1995 as confirmed on a national
level.
Dr. Ralph P. Schorn, AGZ e.V.
